Bio-Sure® is a safe, self regulating, single product that provides a trouble free answer for controlling bacteria in cooling
tower water systems. Its composition consists of soluble silicon glass (Si02 – Na20), which is impregnated with naturally
occurring organic oxides and a small percentage of silver ions Ag (Ag20).
What Does Bio-Sure® Do?...
Bio-Sure® effectively removes and controls waterborne bacteria including legionella, calcium carbonate (scale),
corrosion and pH levels in cooling towers for a 12 month period.
How does it work?...
When water flows over the Bio-Sure® blocks, the naturally occurring organic oxides are slowly released into the water
system at a constant and controlled rate.
- Once the Bio-Sure® blocks have been submerged into the tower basin and have been activated by water flowing
over them, they slowly release soluble silicon glass and various oxides including positively charged silver ions into
the water. Silver ions remain stable in water and are very effective in killing and inhibiting the growth of bacteria,
including legionella, minimising further propagation and mutation of resistant strains.
- Calcium carbonate (scale) is the root cause of inefficient heat transfer, corrosion and water flow problems within
transfer systems. Various traditional treatments have faced difficulties in effectively removing or penetrating this
scale barrier to expose the hidden corrosion beneath.
After a period of 30-40 days, Bio-Sure® softens this scale barrier which is then slowly eroded by the velocity of
water flowing though the system. The detached scale and bacteria must be discarded from the system via the
water bleed off valve and drained away.
The silver ions contained within the Bio-Sure block, then attack and kill any exposed corrosion bacteria on
contact. At this stage of the process, you will detect a high bacterial count via your pourplate or dipslide tests.
This is normal and important, as it indicates that Bio-Sure® is effective in cleansing the water system.
- Once the scale and corrosion bacteria have been removed, the inner surfaces of the plant and equipment are
then finely lined with a thin film of silicon. The silicon’s electrical charge then repels and minimises further scale
and corrosion bacteria from adhering to the internal surfaces. Corrosion activity is a naturally occurring process
and is always present in various degrees which cannot be completely eliminated. Using Bio-Sure® will effectively
control and slow down this process.
- The cleansing process takes time and will depend on the extent of fouling within the system. Scale will be
reduced, minimising resistance and increasing effective heat transfer. Copper components will return to a “near
new condition”, eliminating the need for periodic brushing of copper tubes in the condensers.
