Overview
- Water blast and sanitise the Cooling Tower.
- Install the Bio-Sure® blocks.
- Open bleed off drainage valve.
- Carry out weekly & monthly water sampling.
- Replace Bio-Sure® blocks in 12 months time.
Installation Process
- Water blast and sanitise the cooling tower so that you have a clean system to start with. Six monthly
sanitising is a mandatory requirement under the NZ Building Act. AS/NZ 3666 Standards outline these
compliance procedures.
- Install the correct quantity of Bio-Sure® blocks (refer to “Quantity Calculator” page) into the
water basin of the cooling tower where convenient, but as far away from the makeup water as practically
possible. If you have multiple blocks, we recommend linking them together using cable ties or nylon line.
- Open and adjust the bleed off drainage valve to maintain a TDS of <1000 ppm (Total Dissolved Solid of less than
1000 parts per million). Use a TDS meter to measure this. Once Bio-Sure® is installed and the cooling tower
circulation pump is operational, it will start softening and removing any scale and destroying any other bacteria
that may be present within the water system. This contamination is not generally detectable to the naked eye
and needs to be continuously removed from the water system via the water bleed off drain to maintain a TDS
of <1000 ppm.
- Carry out weekly and monthly water sampling as required by the NZ Building Act & AS/NZ 3666 standards.
- Replace the Bio-Sure® blocks in 12 months time.
Important points to note
- Bio-Sure® ingredients are introduced into the water system as water flows over the blocks. Therefore, the
cooling tower circulation pump must be operational for a minimum of 3 hours, per 24 hour period.
- After a period of 30-40 days, as the Bio-Sure® starts to soften and remove the scale, you will detect a high
bacterial count via your pourplate or dipslide tests. This is normal and important, as it indicates that
Bio-Sure® is effective in cleansing the water system. The time taken to completely clean your system will depend upon
the extent of fouling and contamination contained within.
